Investment Accounting & Reporting Workshop

What You Will Learn

  • 2-day workshop provides an understanding and working knowledge of statutory accounting and reporting requirements for insurance companies' invested assets, including Life, Health and P&C companies.

  • Fundamental understanding of the nature and types of invested assets used by insurance companies.

  • Understanding and working knowledge of the NAIC's Capital Markets and Investment Analysis Office and the Purposes and Procedures Manual.

  • Differences between Statutory and GAAP accounting and reporting guidance for invested assets.

  • Changes to the 2016 Purposes and Procedures Manual and an update of 2015 and 2016 investment accounting and reporting requirements.

  • How to prepare the various Annual Statement Pages, Exhibits and Schedules for invested assets including Schedules, A, B, BA, D, DA, and E.

  • How invested assets impact the Risk-Based Capital Formulas.

  • Participants are encouraged to bring copies of their prior year's annual statement and RBC report for discussion and clarifications of any reporting problems.

Seminar Content

  • Overview of regulatory framework for investments made by insurance companies.

  • Discussion of the unique aspects of statutory accounting applicable to invested assets at both the NAIC and state level.

  • Overview of the NAIC's Capital Markets and Investment Analysis Office.

  • Discussion, use and compliance with the Purposes and Procedures Manual of the NAIC Investment Analysis Office (P&P Manual).

  • Discussion of the various Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAPs) applicable to invested assets.

  • Overview and preparation of the Statutory Annual Statement investment schedules (A, B, BA, D, DA, and E) and related exhibits and worksheets.

  • Various case studies, examples, and exercises to enhance participants' participant's understanding of key elements of the accounting and reporting for invested assets.

  • Changes to the Purposes and Procedures Manual and Investment Schedules for 2017 reporting.

Class Information

Class begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. on last day. Continental breakfast will be served each morning between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Morning and afternoon refreshments are provided. Lunch is the responsibility of the attendee. A welcome reception will be held after the first day's session.

Reservations
Please note accommodations and travel are not included in the registration fee. For your convenience, we have secured a block of discounted rooms at a rate of $195 per night. Rooms are reserved on a first come first served basis. To reserve your room at the discounted conference rate, contact central reservations at 888.915.1110 and reference Millennium Consulting Seminars. Reservations must be made on or before May 31, 2017 to receive the discounted rate.

Terms & Conditions

  • Confirmation Procedures
    You will receive confirmation via email of your registration. Registration is not complete until your payment is received. Your confirmation will provide information regarding transportation, logistics and materials needed for the seminar(s) as well as an invoice for your tuition.

  • Cancellations/Refunds
    We understand that circumstances may arise that require you to cancel. You may send a replacement or apply your tuition to another MCS seminar within the following 12-months if you notify MCS fifteen (15) business days prior to the seminar date.

    As an alternative, you may request a refund, less a $200 administrative fee, up to ten (10) business days prior to the seminar date. If notification of cancellation is received less than ten (10) business days prior to the seminar date, you will be liable for the entire tuition amount. In fairness to all attendees, if you do not attend a seminar for which you are confirmed and do not contact MCS to cancel in advance, you will be liable for the entire tuition amount.
